saltycap.xyz: an engineer's motion-heavy portfolio

For the people deciding whether to talk to my brother, Christian Morton, a mechanical and electrical engineer. The site has to show the work, not describe it.

This is saltycap.xyz on a phone, top to bottom, as captured on 2026-10-04. It scrolls by itself; tick the box to hold it still. The live version is much more animated than a still capture can show.

Bill of materials

What I built

This is a motion-heavy build for an engineer, so the bill of materials is partly technical. I built it for my brother, and it is the most animated site on this list. Here is what is on the live site, as of 2026-10-04.

  1. Power-on self-test

The opening sequence is a “power-on self-test”, like a device booting.

  2. Procedural PCB

The hero draws a printed circuit board live in the browser, and readouts follow the cursor.

  3. WebGL renderer

The production bundle contains a three.js-style WebGL renderer.

  4. Scroll motion

GSAP with ScrollTrigger and SplitText for the scroll-driven animation and text, and Lenis for smooth scrolling.

  5. Spec sheet

Two degrees (BSME and BSEE, University of Arkansas, May 2026), five engineering internships, and a second-place finish at the ASGC Autonomous Vehicle Challenge, where he was electrical team leader.

  6. Named projects

The ASGC vehicle board (a 5 V, 8 A regulated rail from an 11.1 V battery), a 2.4 GHz patch antenna designed in Ansys HFSS, a four-layer research PCB, and a Keyence laser measurement project.

  7. Side projects

A personal rocket, in progress, with a Level 1 certification goal, and a mechanical rope climber, built.

  8. Experience timeline

From 2016, as a mechanic at a water-ski company working 40 hours a week while carrying 8 to 10 credits a semester, through the 2025 internships.

  9. Skills

Laid out as a bill of materials of 19 line items, the same format as this section.

Who it's for

saltycap.xyz is a single-page engineering portfolio for my brother, Christian Morton. A resume lists what someone did. His site tries to show how he thinks: a boot sequence, a circuit board drawn as you watch, readouts that follow the pointer, and projects with real numbers on them.

I built it for him, and the footer says so. This page carries no contact detail beyond the link to the site itself.

If you want a site with this much motion, see Dispatch pricing for what a site costs. The rest of the sites I have built are on the work page.

The live site

Captured 2026-10-04. The live site is far more animated than a still image can show.
